1. What do you do for FinDotNews?

I’m a partner and author of two of the four articles for our monthly newsletter for financial planners’ clients. I drive the business’s sales and am happily in the process of scaling it.

2. What’s on your bookshelf?

I’m currently reading Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. I recently moved home and discovered three copies in my collection. It was one of the English textbooks of my youth and of both of my children.

The themes of racial injustice, social inequity, moral courage and empathy, and Scout Finch’s coming of age are still relevant today. And it’s undoubtedly very beautifully written.

3. Tell us something that not many people know about you.

When I launched FinCommunications in 2017, a specialist financial marketing business, Kim Frost invited me to interview 13 of the top financial advisors in South Africa. It was an incredible opportunity because it allowed me to meet these top achievers and because I learned valuable lessons about self-reflection, overcoming hardship, and planning for the future.

The book is named The Good, the Great, and the Intrepid, and the top financial advisors share their stories. Unfortunately, it was published when Covid hit South Africa, and there wasn’t much of a splash in the media.

4. What do you do to relax?

I like to unwind most by swimming, whether in the gym, rock pools, or the sea, anywhere in the world. I also love art, movies, and theatre.

5. What’s your favourite travel memory?

It’s hard to answer this question, as I have many great travel memories! Probably the best trips I’ve taken are those with my adult children, most recently to Portugal, Czechoslovakia and the UK.

6. What’s the best financial advice you’ve ever received?

“Don’t rely on your inheritance for your retirement.”
